Create for AI search & traditional search

Build one useful, credible page and measure each search surface honestly.

Build on the same fundamentals

Google says its AI Overviews and AI Mode use the same foundational SEO practices as Search. Supporting pages must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet; there is no special AI markup requirement. Eligibility does not guarantee visibility. Google’s AI-feature guidance.

Make important content accessible as text, link to it from relevant pages, use descriptive titles and headings, and ensure structured data matches visible content. These technical checks are part of publication QA; the SEO Researcher packet is not a substitute for a technical site audit.

Use the research for editorial decisions

Traditional results help you examine observed intent and competing approaches. AI citations help identify which sources appeared in a particular captured answer. They are not a complete list of a model’s knowledge, proof of training data, or evidence that every cited page endorses your brand.

Follow cited URLs and check the actual passage before attributing a claim. Preserve platform and capture time. A citation can be present while the brand is absent, criticized, or mischaracterized. Visibility, brand mention, sentiment, and accuracy are separate observations.

Add a contribution worth discovering

We recommend choosing one concrete contribution before drafting: a defensible comparison based on your tests, a decision tool, a first-hand process, a useful dataset, or an expert worked example. Show the method and limits so a reader can judge it.

Google’s guidance emphasizes distinctive, useful material and warns against producing pages for every query variation primarily to manipulate search or AI responses. Google’s generative AI optimization guide.

Avoid keyword stuffing, forced entity repetition, unsupported “best” claims, and rewriting existing results into a longer composite. An entity list is an editorial aid, not a target density. Answer recurring questions when they help the reader, not simply to fill a FAQ quota.

Review the person behind the answer

Use accurate authorship and disclose meaningful methods or assistance when useful to the reader. Do not invent expert credentials. Substantive claims should have evidence, and consequential medical, legal, or financial material needs appropriate expert review. Google’s people-first content guidance.

Measure the right outcome

Measure traditional search impressions, clicks, relevant queries, and business outcomes with your own data. For AI search, keep the prompt, platform, date, cited URL, and whether your brand was actually mentioned. Record retrieval behavior when observable; never label a no-retrieval answer as verified training-corpus knowledge.

Better content improves your information offering. It cannot guarantee a ranking, citation, or predictable change in a model’s answer. See review and measurement for a practical baseline.
